Happy Birthday America!

USHistory.org has lots of information.

The back of the Declaration says: “Original Declaration of Independence / dated 4th July 1776.” Sorry, no maps or secret messages.

Harry and Nancy

Harry and Nancy, over the weekend, were saying that the reason the 110th Congress has been so do nothing is because of “the obstructionism of the Republicans in the United States Senate.”

Captain Ed said it best:

However, listening to Harry Reid complain about Senate obstructionism is somewhat akin to hearing a small child complain to his mother that his sibling hit him back.

Then, today, Harry said that President Bush’s commutation of I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby’s sentence was “disgraceful“:

He said Libby’s conviction was “the one faint glimmer of accountability for White House efforts to manipulate intelligence and silence critics of the Iraq war.”

He said the president had the power to commute Libby’s sentence but “history will judge him harshly for using that power to benefit his own Vice President’s chief of staff who was convicted of such a serious violation of law.”

“As Independence Day nears, we are reminded that one of the principles our forefathers fought for was equal justice under the law. This commutation completely tramples on that principle,” said a frequent Bush critic, New York Democratic Sen. Charles Schumer.

I think President Bush did just the right thing. He waited until the appeals court denied Libby’s appeal to remain out of jail pending the appeals process. He only commuted the jail portion of the sentence leaving the conviction and fines in place pending the rest of the appeals process.

Playing Tag

Kate tagged me with a meme (thanks Kate Shock ). I’m going to leech off Kate’s for ideas.

Eight things you may not know about me.

1. Kate and a few others know this, but most don’t: I finally got my bachelor’s degree in Business/eBusiness one month ago! Hooray! And I’m starting the MBA program next week.

2. I don’t do video games that take a lot of quick hand/eye coordination. I am no good at racing games for instance. I have Civilization 4 and can generally go through to the end of a game, but I haven’t gotten out of the easiest levels. I don’t play often. Other games I like are Zuma, JewelQuest, QBs, stuff like that.

3. I put in my own brick patio last year. Hubby helped with the digging and cutting some of the final bricks, but I did all the rest.

4. I bought paint last year to paint the shed and I still haven’t cracked open the cans.

5. I’ve been designing and making crocheted purses and earrings and have them for sale at Hannah Rose (see ad in the left sidebar).

6. Kate’s never had a pet die of old age, I’ve had one die of old age a cat at 17, a cat at 10 of kidney failure, a cat at 13 of liver cancer, a young cat who died miscarrying a litter of kittens (very sad), two dogs and two cats who were hit by cars, and one dog who was given to us and subsequently given back… Currently we have three cats and two dogs.

7. I love to read books, but I have found that in the past 14 months since I quit smoking I haven’t been reading as much. You see, I would take a book outside on the front porch to read while I smoked a cigarette or two or more…. Now that I’m not smoking, I’m not reading as much. I need to do something about that.

8. Little Guy and I have joined the Library’s summer reading club. The theme this year is mysteries. He has to read 15 books, I only have to read 5. He could win a new bike. I could win an ipod like machine (some other brand).

Now, who to tag? Laura Lee, Jeanette, and Lady Jane.

Stony Brook Blog and Politics Survey

This is a survey by the Stony Brook University PoliSci department. It doesn’t take up too much of your and is for a good cause (education).

Hat Tips to Betsy’s Page and Just One Minute.

Like Betsy, I have nothing to do with the survey except that I participated in it.

Easy "Silver Dollar" Pancakes

I figured out an easy way to make “silver dollar” pancakes.

100_1096.JPGUsing any pancake mix (I used Bisquick shake and pour) put the batter into a plastic ketchup type squeeze bottle ($1 at WalMart or dollar stores). You have a lot of control over where the batter goes and no messy drips from a ladle.

100_1097.JPG
Squirt out the batter onto your hot griddle or frying pan
100_1098.JPGWhen they bubble nicely, flip:

100_1099.JPGWe had a few right away and the rest are in a Ziplock bag in the freezer ready to slip a few into the microwave for future breakfasts…

The Wiggles

We got to see the Wiggles today at Six Flags! The real Wiggles; Sam, Murray, Jeff, and Anthony, Captain Feathersword, Dorothy, Henry, and Wags!

I took the pictures with my Treo, from up in the stands, so they’re not terrific pictures, but we did have a lot of fun!

Remember Me

Back in April I posted on a You Tube video made by a 15-year-old girl from Ohio named Lizzie Palmer.

An argument ensued in the comments to that post, commenter Sue and others were not convinced that Lizzie is a real girl who put together a fantastic video. Fox News had interviewed Lizzie, but Sue couldn’t find a link to the interview and was skeptical.

Just today, Mr. Palmer, Lizzie’s Dad, commented and posted a link to the Fox News interview and he’s noted that Lizzie will be interviewed on CNN tomorrow (5/28/07) morning at 7:30 am Eastern.

Here’s the You Tube video.

Let's Say Thanks

We posted on this eleven months ago and think that it’s appropriate to post again this weekend.

LetsSayThanks.com is a site by Xerox whereby one can choose a postcard design by a child, personalize the postcard message, and Xerox will print and send the postcard to troops overseas or at sea. Xerox has some choices of messages that are already written if you can’t decide exactly what you want to say, and they also give you the choice of personalizing a message.

Go. Do it.

Update:

Lorie at Wizbang! will updating a Memorial Day post during the weekend with links to other Memorial Day related posts.
